Bahrain’s Ulama: Manama’s Policies Constitute a “War” Against the Bahraini Identity

Bahrain’s top religious scholars or the Ulama described the Bahraini judiciary as a tool of the Manama regime in its suppression of dissent. “The death sentences, the citizenship revocations, deportations, and even the criminalization of religious rituals … constitute a war against the religious existence and the Bahraini identity,” the Ulama said in a statement released on Tuesday. “People do not find a government that defends them, a judiciary to be fair to them, security to protect them, and a state that respects their religion as well as their constitutional and legal rights,” the statement reads. The scholars also vowed that the people of Bahrain would carry on fighting for reforms despite threats of “terrorism” and “authoritarianism”.
